Are iOS and Android the only platforms that matter?

Data released by Kantar Worldpanel ComTech on Tuesday showed that iOS accounted for 51.2 percent of all U.S. smartphone OS sales and Android accounted for 44.2 percent.

The fact that Android and iOS dominates the market is not big news. However, for any CIOs are still wondering if the Blackberry/RIM platform is going to remain relevant this may be the most telling data point:  RIM’s market share dropped from 6.1 percent to 1.1 percent in just one year.   What about Windows?  Just 2.6%.    For CIOs evaluating next generation enterprise mobility solutions it seems that Android and iOS are the only platforms that really matter.
