IDC: Smartphone shipments surpass those of feature phones for the first time – FierceMobileIT

Lots (and lots) of phones being manufactured these days:

In the first quarter of this year, shipments of smartphones surpassed those of feature phones for the first time, according to research firm IDC. Mobile vendors shipped 216.2 million smartphones in the first quarter, compared with 202.4 features phones. Smartphone shipments increased 41.6 percent year-over-year, but declined 5.1 percent sequentially, according to IDC stats.

So what does this trend toward more smart phones mean?

The days where phones are used primarily to make phone calls and send text messages are quickly fading away.

What can today’s smart phones with FotoNotes do to streamline operations, reduce mobile workforce costs, and improve service? The list is astonishing:
  • Take still photos
  • Automatically record the time, date, and location (via GPS) of photos
  • Record voice notes, and associate those notes with other data, including photos
  • Capture text
  • Capture other data via drop down, radio button, and other menus
  • Record written signatures
  • Scan bar codes
And the list goes on. Contact us for a demo.
